The National Taiwan University of Sport was founded in 1987. Over the years, it has developed into a leading professional university in the fields of competitive sports, sports science, sports education, and sports industry development, with four colleges and eleven departments. Since its inception, the university has nurtured numerous professionals who have gone on to make significant contributions in their respective fields. As we continue the tradition of NTUS, it is crucial to uphold the responsibilities and missions entrusted by the nation. Following the framework of institutional development, we are committed to taking concrete actions to elevate sports development in Taiwan, establishing our university as a premier institution for cultivating advanced sports talent — a model of “international acclaim and a cornerstone of sports.”
The development of competitive sports aligns with the nation’s established directions in sports and foreign policy, which also corresponds with the vision and goals of our university. Therefore, for the honor of the country, the cultivation and development of athletes require the integration of school administration, academic affairs, and research resources. Additionally, securing both central and local resources is necessary to enhance training facilities and support for athletes, aiming to accomplish the tasks assigned by the nation and achieve the pinnacle of competitive sports performance.
Our university possesses the capability for scientific research and testing. To effectively integrate the technical platforms of competitive sports, health, and medical sports science research, the Ministry of Education approved the establishment of the "Sports Science Research Center" on January 22, 2021, as per the letter Tai-Jiao-Gao (I) No. 1090187475. This center aims to strengthen our university's focus on the interdisciplinary application of sports science, covering key areas such as education, competitive sports, public health, preventive medicine, and industrial advancement. Universities are the cornerstone of societal development, and higher education faculty are the elites of the nation, driving societal progress in cultural and scientific domains. Universities should harness their academic strength, aligning with social and economic development trends, to maximize impact.
In the short and medium term, the center’s main goal is to implement the application of sports science research and integrate it with industry. Key initiatives include enhancing various sports science professional services, integrating our university’s professional technical services with internal research spaces and equipment, and executing commissioned projects from domestic and international academic units and industry-academia cooperation plans to boost sports science research output. Additionally, the center aims to promote precision development in competitive sports and the dissemination of health promotion technologies. This involves using systematic and scientific methods to assess and track athletes' physiological, psychological, nutritional, sports skills, and physical strength conditions, providing a basis for training content and talent selection, thereby improving training effectiveness and cultivating sports science professionals. Furthermore, the center promotes health enhancement techniques, offering community residents physical fitness, health factor measurement, and consulting, as well as exercise prescription design. The center also seeks to establish collaborative relationships with relevant external research or medical units to widely apply the university’s sports science research.
Based on the resolution passed at the 4th school affairs meeting of the 110th academic year on June 14, 2022, the center has been renamed the "Sports Training Science and Big Data Center."
